- We all know Internet browsers (especially internet buyers) have a short attention span. Make sure a user can find exactly what they want in less then 4-6 clicks. One more click and you’ve lost a sale.
- Great product images convert much better. Having only one image is working backwards. Of course great copy that can be scanned is important as well.
- Product videos showing how the product works. This is a lot of work but has done wonders for sites that offer it.
- A bonus on any site is “Free Shipping”. Shipping costs kill conversion.
- 47% of all Internet shoppers only buy discounted items. This number is getting bigger by the day. Having a primary CTA and a landing page will yield great numbers. Make sure you measure important elements on important landing pages.
- Look at shopping cart abandonment rates and improve/simplify an intuitive checkout experience.
- Follow up when users abandon the shopping cart. In some studies a follow up email improved sales up to 100%+. In most cases users enter their information before they abandon the site. A simple checkup shows that you care. An email must be sent ASAP because in most cases the user is looking to buy.
- Showing a process indicator when users are checking out is a great way to improve abandonment rates. Everyone wants in and out quickly and with the method you can show him or her where they are.
- Make sure you destroy uncertainty and all pages. Is the product/page safe? What happens if I don’t like the product I get? How long does shipping take? A new visitor will have a lot of uncertainties. Make sure the most important ones are addressed in the FAQ and product pages.
- Don’t make it hard to put my address in the checkout page. I don’t want to go back and correct what I typed. If I do have to go back you’ve lost me.
- Remember, charging for shipping is a huge turnoff for buyers. Show it in the product page if you have too. But don’t sneak it up on your buyer at the end. They will abandon right there and then. I had to mention this twice because EVERYONE hates shipping charges.
- No product reviews? We all know how important that is when it comes to determining how popular a product is.
- Offer live chat to your buyers. I sure would like some specific information when I am buying a product. Just like going to a store, chat is something that can boost conversion.
- Offer more payment options to your buyers. Hey, the more payment options, the happier your buyers will be.
- The most important of all is having a value proposition. A user needs to know what you’re all about and quick. Not only do they have to know what you do but how you’re product or service is superior to others.
